The top five green items (priorities for future council) were identified as:

1. Increasing the amount of land acquisition for Affordable Housing – 14% of votes
2. Increasing the amount/diversity of community engagement – 12% of votes
3. (Tie) Dedication of additional money for Affordable Housing – 9% of votes
4. (Tie) Following of existing municipal plans (e.g. OCP, ASP, TMP) – 9% of votes
5. Residential Zoning Reform – 6% of votes

The top five red items (items for future councils to avoid) were identified as:

1. Ceasing development on Agricultural Land Reserve – 19% of votes
2. Stop ‘Development by Variance’ (too many variances) – 17% of votes
3. Reducing/stopping urban sprawl – 14% of votes
4. Shifting to roundabouts for intersections (‘Signal Moratorium’) – 13% of votes
5. Stopping “back-room” deals with developers – 10% of votes

The guild says the strike notice means that any production that’s not covered by a “safe harbour agreement” may be subject to labour action once 72 hours have passed since the strike notice was issued on April 26.

There can be no new safe harbour agreements moving forward but productions with existing agreements will be protected from job action.

The guild says the key issues include wage differentials as the minimum wage increases, as well as wage increases that are retroactive to expiry of the last collective agreement and payment terms for COVID-19 testing.

As we hopefully soon move into BC’s Restart Plan, the BCFED Health & Safety Centre is making tentative plans to safely relaunch public in-person open enrollment courses in May & June at Central locations. Keep an eye out for our email mid March with our schedule.

(2) The employer must ensure that each member of the employer’s joint committees who was selected on or after June 1, 2017 to be a member receives, as soon as practicable but no more than 6 months after becoming a member, a total of at least 8 hours of instruction and training, as set out in subsection (4).

(7) For greater certainty, the instruction and training required under subsection (2) or (3) of this regulation is not educational leave as set out in section 41 of the Workers Compensation Act.

Note: The 8-hour mandatory training requirement — “new joint committee members must receive the instruction and training required under section 3.27 of the Occupational Health & Safety Regulation (OHSR)” — is separate from the existing annual 8-hour educational leave assigned by section 41 of the Workers Compensation Act, “Each member of a joint committee is entitled to an annual educational leave totaling 8 hours […]”.

* New committee members are eligible to receive 16 hours of education in their first year.*
